Discovering Yourself Through Others: Alexandra’s ESC Experience in Lithuania
From October 2024 until today, Alexandra has turned her ESC year in Lithuania into a journey of growth, self-discovery, and authentic connections.
A path that led her to discover herself through others and to understand how deeply solidarity can change lives — both one’s own and those of others.
“My volunteering experience with ESC in Lithuania is something that will stay with me for a long time, not only because of the beautiful memories, but also as an essential reference for the kind of work I aspire to do in the future.
It was a year of empathy, listening, and care for others, but also of resilience, self-questioning, and adaptation.
My volunteering with Caritas Lithuania taught me that only work aligned with my values and ethical principles can truly give me satisfaction.
At the migrant camp in Pabradė, I learned how much a friendly face or a simple word can make a difference in someone’s life.
And then, in Vilnius, at the Foreigners’ Integration Centre, I had the opportunity to organise cultural and community events such as international dinners, film screenings, and English language clubs — moments that created real bonds by bringing together people from different cultures.
Not only did I discover sides of myself I didn’t know before, but I also strengthened my empathy, listening skills, and confidence in my abilities. This experience made me realise that I want to continue working for and with others, building inclusive and supportive communities.” 💬
And you? Would you like to live an experience that changes you — inside and out?
