Hands and Wings – Youth Exchange in Latresne (Bordeaux, France)

Our young participants took part in the Erasmus+ youth exchange “Hands and Wings”, held in Latresne, near Bordeaux (France), experiencing an intense journey of learning, discovery, and personal growth.

The project focused on professional and gender stereotypes, with a special emphasis on the aviation sector. Through non-formal education activities, flight simulations, and intercultural exchanges, participants had the opportunity to reflect on career paths, future opportunities, and their own fears and potential.

One of the most meaningful moments was the flight experience, where the group enjoyed a real 20-minute flight over Bordeaux ✈️, along with several hands-on workshops and thematic labs related to the aviation world.

The experience was also a great opportunity for personal and language development, thanks to the international environment and the daily use of English.

Below are some testimonies from the participants:

Francesco:
“This Erasmus+ was amazing. The activities were incredible, and flying on a small aircraft for the first time was an unforgettable experience. The staff was kind and welcoming, the food was good, and the accommodation was comfortable.”

Salvatore:
“It was a wonderful experience, made even better by amazing people and a beautiful place. It helped me improve my English and communication skills, and to learn more about the history and culture of other European countries. I will always remember it.”

Andrea:
“This was the best experience of my life. At first, I was almost hoping not to be selected because of my fear of flying—I had never been on a plane before. But I am grateful I faced this challenge. I overcame almost all of my fear and lived an incredible week.
I met people from different languages, cultures, and habits. At first, communication was difficult, but day by day my English improved and I met amazing people.
I also formed a strong bond with the Sardinian group I travelled with—I didn’t expect it, but now I truly care about them. A special thanks goes to our group leader Sofia, who supported us every step of the way and made everything enjoyable.
I hope everyone can live an experience like this, because it stays with you forever.”

Gioia:
“I joined this project because I really wanted to travel and try something new. Even if I was a bit scared about the language and being far from home, it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
Bordeaux is beautiful, but what made it special were the people. I felt comfortable from the very beginning. Even if it was just one week, the bond we created was incredibly strong.
I’m going home with the desire to leave again. This experience taught me that opening up to new things is never a mistake.”

Giorgia:
“This Erasmus experience was amazing. I hope everyone can live it at least once. If you have the chance, go— it will be the best decision of your life. We spoke different languages, but we laughed the same way ❤️”

Pamela:
“This week was an explosion of emotions I will never forget. In such a short time, we created a strong bond with people I didn’t even know before. It felt like we were all part of the same group from the very first moment.
I’m going home with new international friendships and the awareness that you don’t need months to live something magical. This experience changed me for the better and will stay with me forever.”

An experience that leaves a mark

“Hands and Wings” showed how international mobility can be a powerful tool for personal growth, breaking stereotypes, and discovering new professional opportunities. Through direct experience and exchange, young people strengthened their linguistic, social, and emotional skills, gaining greater awareness of themselves and their future.
