From 3 to 10 May 2026, three youth workers took part in SAFE-NET, an Erasmus+ Training Course held in Sasca Montană, Romania, focusing on digital well-being and the balance between online and offline life.
The project was designed to equip youth workers and other professionals with practical tools to address the challenges of the digital world through non-formal education methods. At the same time, it promoted a stronger connection with nature, personal well-being, and the creation of European networks in the field of youth work.
Throughout the training course, participants took part in practical workshops, outdoor activities, discussions, hiking experiences, and reflection sessions focused on the mindful use of technology. One of the most meaningful moments was a hike completed without mobile phones, encouraging participants to reflect on their daily relationship with digital devices and on the feelings experienced while being disconnected from screens.

“SAFE-NET was a safe and welcoming space where we could explore the topic of digital well-being together. Surrounded by nature, we experimented with and searched for solutions through hikes, discussions, practical workshops, and non-formal education activities that will certainly be useful in my work at the library and with young people. “In Romania, we explored the topic of digital well-being, reflecting on good practices that can help promote it. One morning, we went on a short hike without taking our mobile phones with us. When we returned, we reflected on how the experience had made us feel. It was wonderful to discover a place like Sasca Montană. There were also many opportunities to connect with local young people, especially during the evening five-a-side football matches after dinner.”

“I spent a week in Romania with young people from different parts of Europe, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Between the late-night conversations, the laughter over our different languages, the hikes, and the learning sessions, I felt at home even though I was over 2,000 kilometres away. It was an amazing experience that I would recommend everyone to have at least once in their lifetime. I came back with new friends and the desire to set off on another adventure straight away.”
